Hi, my post has been removed and I understand, but I'd like to know how it is possible to have ifnormation about an outsourcer when we have a doubt about him/her? Thanks | | | Unfortunately any information is not 100% checkable. | Feb 3, 2014 |
You could go to the county clerk's office in the US and see if the company is registred, if it is a local company, you can check the blue board, you could ask around, but there is always an element of uncertainty when engaging in online work. If they are a Proz member, you could check if they are verified.

Check the Blue Board. That's exactly what it is for. | | | Tony M フランス Local time: 22:09 メンバー フランス語 から 英語 + ... SITE LOCALIZER
First of all, have you tried looking them up on the Blue Board? If they do not already appear there, then you can apply to have them added, and then post a 'call for entries' to see if anyone else knows anything about them. If you seriously suspect a scam, or at least some sharp (un!)professional practice (and I have to say that I personally DO!), then you should contact site staff via a support request, alerting them to any job adverts you are aware of. well in fact this outsourcer is not in the Blue Board. the agency seems to be new. I checked and the agency posted 4 ads in January, but no one answered. | | | L.Lepetit フランス Local time: 22:09 英語 から フランス語 + ... TOPIC STARTER
Thanks for your help. I sent a request and I'll let you know as soon as I have an answer. In the meantime, I declined the job. Best Laetitia | | | Tony M フランス Local time: 22:09 メンバー フランス語 から 英語 + ... SITE LOCALIZER
Well, I suggest posting the links to the job ads here, to warn other people about your misgivings; and from the job ad, you can click on 'report this job posting to site staff' and ask them to look into it, citing the reasons for your concern, and naturally mentioning the other 3 job postings. Is there a ProZ.com profile associated with these job postings? If so, and it doesn't give any further information, I personally wouldn't waste any more time on it; it's probably a scam, or at... Concrètement, is there a ProZ.com profile (that's one link)? Is there a job posting (that's another link)? The link you posted before identified the outsourcer, but did not give us any clue as to their presence or not on ProZ.com. The only acceptable way to ask for information about an unknown outsourcer is to request for them to be added to the Blue Board so a call for entries can be made — but this does take time! Don't worry Tony, as soon as I have an answer from the site staff, I'll let everybody know. | | | Please report suspicious situations to site staff | Feb 3, 2014 |

See more Hello, As said above, the best way to check an outsourcer is to search the Blue Board for them. You can also find other methods for risk management on these articles: http://wiki.proz.com/wiki/index.php/Risk_management_for_translators_and_interpreters & http://wiki.proz.com/wiki/index.php/Detecting_and_reacting_to_false_job_offers_and_other_scams Now, unless it is certain that the offer you refer to is a scam, please do not name any names or supply any links that would identify the outsourcer you refer to. If the person is an outsourcer your post will violate forums rule #8, http://www.proz.com/siterules/forum/8#8 , and will be subsequently removed. Since it is sometimes hard to determine if an offer is a scam or not from the information you have available, you may want to submit the information you have to site staff, and I will look into it. I will not always be able to ascertain if an outsourcer is legitimate or not, but I may recognize some sign that the offer is fraudulent and take action on it. In any case, it is worth remembering that not all legitimate offers should be trusted. A non-paying outsourcer who is active in the translation industry selling and hiring translation services still constitutes an outsourcer and cannot be mentioned in the forums. Risk management checks should always be taken before accepting work from any source. Hope this helps. Please let me know if you have any question. Best regards, Alejandro ▲ Collapse | | |
And a word to outsourcers who included gagging clauses in their standard contract, preventing translators from discussing the details of your collaboration, sometimes expressly banning criticism (yup, I've seen it), though you'd normally use terms like 'negative light'. What you're doing is not cool. How about you get your act together and start acting like normal people instead of trying to enslave others with your legalese?
