I feel I’m as productive now as I was 2/3 years ago, but I’m much more productive than I was some 40 years ago when I started translating: there were no PCs, no Internet, no email, only typewriters, and if you needed to correct your translation, as it always happens, you had to retype that page. Can you imagine how frustrating and time-consuming the whole process could be? Nowadays, I care more about quality than productivity and I’m definitely more productive when I enjoy the text. With long jobs, I always set myself a daily comfortable translation quota in order to be able to squeeze smaller jobs from other customers. A huge advantage of big projects is that you become familiar with content quite early and the more familiar you are the faster your translation speed picks up…Collapse

2-3 years ago was the middle of the pandemic. Work volumes improved on the way out, but as Ruzzia invaded Ukraine, things levelled out a bit again.

Unfortunately, I had a stroke last year that affected the language part of my brain. It takes me much longer to complete a translation. But I keep at it, because I'm anxious to improve!

I notice my first drafts are of better quality, so less time is needed for reviewings.

My vacation time has also significantly increased, without impact on revenue.
