Interesting Jun 16

I am amazed at how they keep coming with new fancy words for the “dull AI slaving at miserable prices”. Better yet “AI prompt engineer”, since when is asking questions called engineering?

No, and I don't plan to Jun 18

I do not see that it would be useful for the work I do.
I agree with comments from the CIoL survey on members' use of AI in 2025 and 2026:
https://www.ciol.org.uk/generative-ai-has-opinion-shifted

"I am against the use of AI in general and believe it to be ethically and environmentally dubious. I explicitly tell my clients that I do not use AI."

"I am against the use of AI in general and believe it to be ethically and environmentally dubious. I explicitly tell my clients that I do not use AI."

"Plenty of reasons NOT to use it: it's more work to fix the results than to translate from scratch; AI is built on stolen and copyrighted work; AI uses far too much water and electricity; AI companies use low-paid workers to edit the input; using AI decreases your creativity and skills."

"I don't see any advantage for me in my work anyway, but I'm increasingly worried about the environmental impact and serious ethical issues of AI."

But check the whole survey for a fuller perspective!

I don't have even the slightest wish to learn what kind of verbal acrobatics could have created the term 'Linguistic Prompting', nor to try to figure out what 'AI Optimization' could possibly have to do with translating?

I will very happily stay 'ignorant' of what these 'exciting opportunities' have to offer to me – plenty of more interesting ways to use my time than to be a remote peripheral attached to some wannabe intelligence.

I will very happily stay 'ignorant' of what these 'exciting opportunities' have to offer to me – plenty of more interesting ways to use my time than to be a remote peripheral attached to some wannabe intelligence.

Especially when arranged through sub-sub-subcontractors with a habit of 'optional payment': I recently heard of yet another case of someone doing some AI related work (not related to languages) and the company simply 'deciding to not pay'.

What is not to like with 'AI work'? You get the insult and the injury ...
