Register local is greyed-out for term bases, how do I get it selectable? Thread poster: Fredrik Pettersson

I need to move my termbase from D drive to E drive (E drive is an external drive), but when I have the MemoQ project opened and have unticked the checkbox for the correct term base on D drive that I already have moved to E drive and now want to Register local for this term base, the option Register local is greyed-out? What is the reason that I cannot use this option, and how do I get it selectable? | | | Stepan Konev Russian Federation Local time: 17:50 English to Russian Recover Register Local | Nov 10, 2024 |

Great Stepan, that was the issue! For all projects for some reason the server for one of my regular customers since many years is pre-selected. Shouldn't there be any setting somewhere so that I can change to My Computer as default?
I clicked on Register Local, browsed to my external E drive where I have copied the termbase to, and selected the termbase file MemoQTB.mtb and thought I was done. But then this popped up:

A term base with the same name already exists in this location."
I never deleted any of the two termbases, neither the original on drive D, nor the copied on drive E. In the MemoQ list, it is the D drive termbase version that is listed now naturally as I have not Registered Local yet. The checkbox is not ticked for it any longer (I unticked it a few days ago).
This termbase is the most valuable I have. Is there any risk in starting with deleting the D drive version? Or how should I go about from there, now that the Register Local is selectable? ▲ Collapse | | | Stepan Konev Russian Federation Local time: 17:50 English to Russian Make a copy and delete the outdated term base from memoQ | Nov 11, 2024 |
If you choose to abandon the translation business one day, consider writing quests for video games
Ok, let's try this one...
1. Navigate to the Term bases view.
2. Right-click the unchecked term base marked with a bolt icon.
3. Select Delete from the dropdown list.
4. Register the same term base from your E drive.

*Step 3 would remove the term base folder from your PC, but since you mentioned that you moved it from D to E, memoQ wouldn't find/delete it from drive E. However, just for you to be on the safe side, make a copy of your term base on drive E. If deleting the bolt-marked term base from memoQ completes successfully, you can remove the copy of your term base then.

Writing quests for video games, well, that's what I've been practising for here at ProZ.com all the time since I became a member. My secret desire. My highschool teacher always said that I should become a writer. So, why not? The time might be ripe for that.
Okay, that worked, now I got the term base moved from D drive to E drive and everything works fine, I could open the term base and make edits in it as normal.
